A Letter To Kerbala

The letter below was written by a brother who just about missed out to go for Arbaeen in Kerbala.

Dear Kerbala,

I write this letter with utmost grief and sorrow in my heart, and in a state where I can not really seem to forgive myself, simply because I will not be visiting you this time. It has been exactly six months since my first ever visit to you, and you were nothing short of an amazing and very hospitable host.

Kerbala, I remember our first meeting very well, when I descended from the bus to be greeted by the scorching sun and hot air surrounding me, but there was something special in this air, there was a fragrance of heaven that made me forget the heat and fall in love with you immediately. From then on, every step I took with you, I felt special, honored and most of all my heart had finally found the much needed satisfaction I had been looking for over twenty years.

My dear friend, then you made me meet the two holy personalities I have been hearing of every year, the two brave soldiers of Islam and saviour of Humanity, you made me meet Abbas and Husain. O Kerbala, you witnessed my arrival to these two personalities, you stood there to cool me when I cried my heart out as I met Husain and Abbas.

Our farewell was something I never looked forward to, but I was told all good things come to an end, and so did this. However, I remember my promise to Husain and to you O my Friend, that I shall be back with the millions who shall come for Arbaeen, to honor you and show the world how blessed you are; and so did I leave, counting days to come back and meet you.

O heaven on earth, O Kerbala, it is however sad to let you know that our meeting has been postponed for reasons only Allah knows, but Kerbala, please don’t be disappointed, please forgive me for this short coming of mine. I don’t know the reason behind my failure, but maybe I failed in my duties to the Lord, or maybe I didn’t fulfill my obligations to Husain, or maybe I just let down myself.

So Kerbala, I won’t be amongst the millions that will visit you in the coming week, I won’t be amongst the millions who will walk for days just to meet you, I won’t be there to embrace you, nor to see you, but O Kerbala, you are in my heart. O Holy Land, pardon my absence, but make it a reason for my visit in the coming days, because O Land, I am in love with you.

My friend, you have gone through a lot of miseries, problems and difficulties in your life. You were there when Husain was killed, when Abbas’s arms were chopped, when Asgher was struck by a three headed spear and when the caravan was looted. Despite of all this, you have been loyal to the master, you have been an amazing host and are the identity of heaven on earth.

Therefore my friend, I ask you, to host my brothers and sisters coming to visit you, to show them the love, spread within them the aroma and fragrance of heaven, but most of all, O land, make not their meeting with the Master Husain the last, but, one of the many more to come.

O friend, how lucky you are, on you are two holy personalities, to you do millions come every month, and angels descend to yours every hour, so does the Holy Prophet and his progeny, all with nothing but the love and hope to meet and pay respects to Husain, the saviour of humanity.

I shall end this letter O Kerbala, with tears in my eyes, my hands trembling with fear, my body shocked and my heart devastated for missing out the opportunity to meet you once again. However, O lovely friend of mine, I shall be back soon, to visit you and my master Husain.

May you be blessed and loved as always,

Kind regards,

Your devastated friend,

Lover of Husain!

Need More?
7) And then came Qiyamah,
He was ordered: :You Zakir!
Join the line over there towards Jannah.
He chuckled and and had a smile on his face when he saw
All wearing black, heading to Kerbala
8) Ya Imam Husain,
We just remember you in the 10 days of Muharam
Yet we see so many miracles.
Just imagine, if me and you remembered him everyday!
9) O Lady Fatemah, What made Husain?
Was it your father’s blood?
Your husband’s love?
Your milk?
You must be so proud of him,
So are we!

Event of Ghadeer In The Holy Quran- By Mujtaba Somji

“O Messenger! Convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord; and if you do not,
then you have not conveyed His message (at all); and Allah will protect you from the (vice of)
people, verily Allah does not guide the unbelieving ones.” (Surah al-Maidah, ayah 67)

Mujtaba Somji

In this verse, only the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) is addressed. It states but his duty. Then, for a further emphasis it warns him that if he refrains doing that, he has not conveyed his message to people at all.

Truly, what an important subject there existed in the latest months of the Prophet’s life that in the above mentioned verse the lack of its conveyance has been counted equivalent with the lack of messenger ship wholly.

In different books of the scholars of both Sunnite and Shi’ah schools of thought, there are many traditions recorded to say that the above mentioned verse has been revealed at Ghadir e Khum about the appointment of the successor for the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and the future fate of Islam and Muslims.

“Verily, verily your guardian (Waliyy) is only Allah and His Messenger and those who believe, those who establish prayer and pay the poor-rate while bowing down (in prayer).” (Surah al-Maidah, ayah 55)

It has been cited in the occasion of revelation of the above verse that: a beggar entered the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) and asked people for a charity. No one gave him anything except for Imam Ali (a.s.) who pointed his finger to the beggar while he was bowing in the prayer, and he remitted his ring to that beggar. In honouring of this remittal, the above verse was revealed. It is also stated that Imam Ali (a.s) was in such deep connection with his Lord during his prayers that he got an inner indication from the Almighty that a beggar has come.

‘Ammar-Yasir says that it was after the remittal of the ring and the revelation of the holy verse that the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) said: “The one whose master I am, then this Ali is his master.” The holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) recited this verse in Ghadir e Khum in order to state the position of Imam Ali (a.s).

Many Islamic scholars and the commentators of the Qur’an have said that the objective meaning of the word ‘waliyy’, mentioned in the above verse, is Wilayah in the sense of: ‘guardianship’ and ‘material and spiritual personal initiative’ and ‘leadership’. In particular that this guardianship has been ordered in the same row of the guardianship of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and the guardianship of Allah (s.w.t), and these three are stated in one sentence.

Thus, this verse is one the verses that, as a Qur’anic text, indicate to mastership and Imamate of Imam Ali (a.s).

Lessons From The Life of The Holy Lady Fatima (pbuh)

As we commemorate Ayyame Fatimiyya, listed below are a few lessons that we learn from her life.

1. Be kind to your parents

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) would speak with her mother Sayyada Khadija while she was in her womb to keep her company because the women of Makkah had boycotted her.

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) would clean the Prophet’s wounds after the Makkans injured him with stones. Sayyada Fatema (a.s.) was a source of comfort to her father.

2. Trust Your Parents with important decisions of your life

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) trusted her father when he left her in Makkah while he migrated to Madina.

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) trusted her father with the decision of  choosing Imam Ali (a.s.) for her husband. Several men had proposed  to marry Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) but the Prophet only asked her about the proposal of Imam Ali(a.s.) and she agreed to marry him.

3. When choosing a life partner look for Piety not Money

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) chose to marry Imam Ali(a.s.) based on his piety. She did not look at how rich he was.

4. Give in the way of Allah what you love most:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) gave away her wedding dress the day after she got married!

5. Always acquire knowledge:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) would ask her sons to tell her about the sermons of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH

6. Always share your knowledge:

Sayyada Fatima was always willing to answer questions of the women of Madina even if they were many, for example when an old lady sent her many questions about fiqh.

7. Raise your children in the way of Allah:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) raised Imam Hasan(a.s.), Iman Hussain (a.s.), Sayyada Zainab and Sayyada Umm Kulthum to be leaders of Islam.

8. Always Glorify Allah:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) would always glorify Allah by reciting the tasbih whenever she would perform the chores of the house.

9. Love your Children Equally:

Sayyada Fatima (a.s.) greeted both Imam Hassan(a.s.) and Imam Hussain(a.s. ) as “qurata aini wa thamarata fuadi”, “the light of my eyes and the delight of my heart” in the event of the Kisa.

10. Give in the way of Allah without expecting reward or thanks:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) and her family gave away their meals three days in a row to the poor without asking for any reward while they themselves remained hungry. This event led to the revelation of Sura Dahar in their praise.

11. Treat your servants well:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) always treated Sayyada Fizza well and took turns in performing household chores with her.

12. Observe Hijab properly:

Sayyada Fatima always observed Hijab even if the visitor to her house was a blind man.

13. Speak up when your rights are taken away:

Sayyada Fatima (a.s.) went to court and spoke up against her rights and inheritance being taken away.

14. Prepare for your death:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) was very concerned about her burial and wanted her hijab to be maintained after she died and had a casket designed that would cover her body.

15. Never trust the enemies of Islam:

Sayyada Fatima(a.s.) asked certain people not to be allowed tocome to her burial and her exact burial place has been kept a secret.

The Prophet (s) said, “Fatima is part of me and she is my heart and the soul which is between my two sides.”

The Prophet (s) said, “Fatima is the joy of my heart, and her sons are the fruit of my soul.”

She was indeed one of the greatest Islamic personalities that had ever existed on this earth.

It is said that Prayer is like a beautiful flower and the Tasbeeh of Sayeda Fatima(a.s.) gives this beautiful flower a beautiful fragrance.
